With plenty of festivals every Summer and Autumn, there’s one thing we need to master apart from our dance moves: our hair! You want that lose and wavy effortless look for festival season! Other than our number one go to, dry shampoo, we need accessories to give our hair that extra edge! Hair clips, bows, hats, bandanas, flowers, crowns, you name it! Here are our top 20 favourite hair ideas.
#1 Delicate Clip Days
A nice clip can go a long way if you don’t want to go overboard and prefer a more pared back look. Instead of opting for some crazy accessories, choose a delicate pretty clip placed near the ear, or at the back of your hair. This gives you the perfect grown up elegant look, without lacking that playful tassel we all love to see in our hair!
#2 Bandana Babe
One of the summer staples that never goes out of style is the boho bandana look. These are super affordable and come in beautiful bright colours and prints, making a light earthy and vibrant statement. Adding a simple bandana to your look will make it look like you’ve put in far more effort, all the whilst hiding any greasy roots!
#3 Bejeweled Tresses
There’s something so versatile about these miniature clip accessories. They can be used for a formal hairstyle event or a chill festival, once paired with denim cut offs and a crop top! These sparrow versions from Urban Outfitters have an almost medieval Game of Thrones feel to them, we love it!
#4 Floral Crown
Another favourite of ours spotted all summer, is the floral crown! Perfect for a festival with a basic tee and shorts, a floral crown transforms you into an earthy nature-loving goddess!
#5 Embellished Forehead Bands
If you want to try something different, an embellished band worn directly across the forehead is the perfect choice! Part-jewellery, part-hair accessory, this type of headband is a nice tight fit, (no falling off you when you hit the dance floor!) but lose enough to avoid those after dance headaches we sometimes get after a good night out. A win win!
#6 Milkmaid Braid Band
The milkmaid braid is one of our favourites! We vote it’s the easiest to master after the classic plait. Not only does it look funky and fun, it’ll keep your hair out of your eyes all day long. If you want this hairstyle to stand out that bit more, place a hair band across your crown and tuck into your braid. Super cute and super easy!
#7 Braided Shipwreck Babe
Why not go for a fun theme like this shipwrecked mermaid like style hero? With fake starfish clipped into your hair, this nautical trend is reworked into something quite different. Looking like an earth goddess or boho queen is key, so the concept of working the sea into that ‘mother nature’ look makes so much sense!
#8 Giant Bardot Bow
Channel your inner Brigitte Bardot with an oversized bow and big hair! If you do the half-up half-down look, your hair will look instantly voluminous and totes 1960s! Plus it’ll keep your hair out of your eyes (for all those festival antics)!
#9 Bun Cuff Trend
If you’ve always been a jewellery junkie, then the bun cuffs trend is going to be your next obsession! This super cool trend resembles a bracelet in your hair and looks quite retro. Pair this piece with a messy up down hair look for maximum effect. Festival Queen!
#10 Retro Barrette Clips
This is a bit of a Marmite love-hate trend. You’re either going to see it as a quirky stylized new look OR consider it a horrible reminder of those school days when you hadn’t a clue what you were doing and ended up with dozens of clips in your hair#! Emma Watson is on board however, which is enough reason to try it in our opinion!
#11 The 1980s Scrunchie Sista
If you see yourself as a bit of an 80s kid at heart, then take Clarissa Knows It All as inspiration and grab a scrunchie! The bigger the scrunchie, the better.
#12 Baseball Cap Bae
In case you hadn’t noticed snapbacks have made a major comeback! This gem is perfect for hiding any bad hair day or going for a laid back look. if you can pull off this look it’s a game changer!
#13 Slick Oversized Fedora
Another seriously cool hat trend to invest in is the large fedora! It suits every face shape, shields you from sun or rain, and hides hair in need of a wash! A dressier hat option than the last, it will give a more polished yet simultaneously edgy look to even the most casual style.
#14 Holler For Hair Rings
Hair rings are (we predict) an emergent trend! Many jewelers are coming out with classic and more elaborate designs of this newest hot look! The hippy-chic vibes will give you serious style points without much effort or interference with your hairstyle.
#15 Weave in Pom Poms
Pom poms on bags, pom poms on keychains, pom poms on clothes, pom poms on shoes…Where does this fluffy trend end? Thankfully not at hair accessories! How fun and youthful is this pom pom headband from Asos?
#16 Hair Parting Bling
Inspired by Indian headdress, worn traditionally at weddings, this hair parting accessory is beyond stunning! It not only gives you an elegant & feminine touch, but also draws the eye to the centre of the face, making the eyes and lips the centre of attention, always a good idea!
#17 Daisy Chain Dolly
Remember all those hours you spent making daisy chains in the park as a kid? They didn’t go to waste! Clearly fashion buyers and designers were inspired by this wonderful childhood activity, because daisy hair accessories are now all the rage! Dot them throughout the hair either intermittently or in a row to get that boho vibe.
#18 Mysterious Headpiece Beauty
Once again drawing heavily from traditional Indian headwear, this hair accessory draws your attention to the wearer’s eyes, as it rests just above them in the middle of the forehead. The delicate decorative pieces are so flattering, and look more intricate than they actually are just by the sheer volume of them!
#19 Greek Leaf Headband
Inspired from another ancient culture, the gold leaf headband will make you a modern day Greek goddess…who just so happens to love dancing in tents! You can wear this across the crown like hair bands, or wear it backwards and beneath the hair when it’s tied up in a topknot, giving it the perfect peek-a-boo effect.
#20 The 1940s Head Scarf
Last but certainly not least, is the headscarf! Whether it’s a silk or cotton blend, the headscarf is the saving grace of any bad hair day. Put this look together by wrapping your headscarf around the body of your hair, draping it over the ears and tying over your bun. Remind you of anything? How about the famous female flexing in the 1940s wartime poster telling all the ladies that “We Can Do It!”. And in the words of another famous female… “Who run the world? Girls!”
