With plenty of festivals every Summer and Autumn, there’s one thing we need to master apart from our dance moves: our hair! It needs to be that perfectly untamed, yet ever so slightly and subtly tamed, decorated mane for festival season! Other than trusty dry shampoo, our hair calls out to be adored, and adorned by hair clips, bows, hats, bandanas, flowers, crowns and everything in between!
#1 Delicate Clip Days
If you don’t want to go overboard and prefer a more pared back look, this doesn’t mean you have to be excluded from the hair dress up party. A delicate, pretty clip placed around the ear or at the back of your hair makes for a grown up, elegant look.
#2 Bandana Babe
One of the summer staples that never goes out of style is the boho bandana look. These are super affordable and come in beautiful, bright colours and prints, making a light, earthy and vibrant statement. Tying one of these around your crown will make it look like you’ve made far more effort… and hide any greasy roots!
#3 Bejeweled Tresses
There’s something so versatile about these miniature clip accessories. They can move from a formal event to a chill festival, paired with denim cut offs and a crop top! These sparrow versions from Urban Outfitters have an almost medieval Game of Thrones feel to them, and we loves this.
#4 Floral Crown
Another favourite spotted throughout summer, the floral crown deserves its space in the spotlight given how beautiful and versatile it is.. Even with a basic tee and shorts, the floral crown transforms you into an earthy, nature-loving goddess.
#5 Embellished Forehead Bands
If you want to try something a bit different, an embellished band worn directly across the forehead is so cool. Part-jewellery, part-hair accessory, this type of headband should fit tightly enough that it doesn’t budge during those dance moments but won’t end up giving you a headache or leave a mark by the end of the day.
#6 Milkmaid Braid Band
The milkmaid braid is one of the easiest to master of all the braids other than the classic plait. It’ll keep the hair out of your eyes during the long days while still looking feminine and natural. Place a hair band across the crown and tuck into the braid to stand out that bit more!
#7 Braided Shipwreck Babe
Why not go for a fun theme like this shipwrecked, mermaid like style hero? With fake starfish clipped into her hair, the nautical trend is reworked into something quite different. Looking like an earth goddess or boho queen is key, so the concept of working the sea into that ‘mother nature’ look makes so much sense.
#8 Giant Bardot Bow
Channel your inner Brigitte Bardot with an oversized bow and big hair! If you do the half-up, half-down look, your hair will look instantly voluminous and totes 1960s. Plus, it’ll also keep your hair out of your face for all festival antics!
#9 Bun Cuff Trend
If you’ve always been a jewellery junkie, then the bun cuffs trend is going to be your next obsession. Resembling a bracelet, the hair cuff is clicked into place over the hair tie.
#10 Retro Barrette Clips
This is a bit of a Marmite, love-hate trend. You’re either going to see it as a quirky, stylized new cool trend to try OR consider it a horrible reminder of those school days when you hadn’t a clue what you were doing and ended up with 50 randomly-placed clips. Emma Watson is on board however, which is enough reason to try it in our opinion!
#11 The 1980s Scrunchie Sista
If you see yourself as a bit of an 80s kid at heart, then take Clarissa Knows It All as inspiration and grab a scrunchie! The bigger the scrunchie, the better.
#12 Baseball Cap Bae
You may have noticed already, but snapbacks have made a major comeback. If you’re having a casual day yet still want to accessorize in some way, grab a baseball cap. It also hides any potential bad hair day!
#13 Slick Oversized Fedora
Another seriously cool hat trend to invest in, the large fedora suits every face shape, will shield you from the sun and rain and hide hair in need of a wash. A dressier hat option than the last, it will give a more polished yet simultaneously edgy look to even the most casual of looks.
#14 Holler For Hair Rings
Hair rings are, we predict, an emergent trend! Many jewellers are coming out with classic and more elaborate designs of this form. The hippy-chic vibes will give you serious style points without much effort or interference with your hairstyle.
#15 Weave in Pom Poms
Pom poms on bags, pom poms on keychains, pom poms on clothes, pom poms on shoes…Where does this fluffy trend end? Thankfully not at hair accessories apparently! How fun and youthful is this pom pom headband from Asos?
#16 Hair Parting Bling
Inspired by Indian headdress worn traditionally at weddings, this hair parting accessory is beyond stunning. It not only gives you an elegant & feminine touch, but also draws the eye to the centre of the face, making your eyes and lips the centre of attention.
#17 Daisy Chain Dolly
Remember all those hours you spent making daisy chains in the park as a kid? They didn’t go to waste, as clearly fashion buyers and designers were inspired enough by that childhood activity to make daisy hair accessories! Dot them throughout the hair either intermittently or in a row to get that boho vibe.
#18 Mysterious Headpiece Beauty
Once again drawing heavily from traditional Indian headwear, this hair accessory draws your attention to the wearer’s eyes, as it rests just above them in the middle of the forehead. The delicate decorative pieces are so flattering, and look more intricate than they actually are just by the sheer volume of them!
#19 Greek Leaf Headband
Inspired from another ancient culture, the gold leaf headband will make you a modern day Greek goddess…who just so happens to love dancing in tents! You can wear this across the crown like hair bands or wear it backwards, beneath the hair when it’s tied up in a topknot, for a peek-a-boo effect.
#20 The 1940s Head Scarf
Last but certainly not least, is the headscarf. Whether silk or a cotton blend, the headscarf is the saving grace of any bad hair day. Look put together by wrapping your headscarf around the body of your hair, draping it over the ears and tying over your bun. Remind you of anything? How about the famous female flexing in the 1940s wartime poster telling all the ladies that “We Can Do It!”. And in the words of another famous female… “Who run the world? Girls!”
