Who doesn’t want to capture that Gisele ‘The Body’ Bündchen essence? While not all of us are going to look like Gisele replicas, we can certainly get that cool off-duty vibe and glow to radiate from the inside out. Speaking to Chanel & Elle, here are 13 insider tips from the supermodel herself!
#1 Begin Makeup Application with Hydrating Spray
It makes perfect sense that if you’re going for a natural look, you’ll want to put more effort into treating the skin than covering it. When you sit down to apply your makeup, if any, begin with a hydrating spray like Gisele! MAC Prep + Prime (€22) is gorgeous and refreshing.
#2 Follow With a Serum
Right afterwards, hydrate the skin even deeper with a daytime appropriate serum. The Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum (€24.99) is a great option that sinks in speedily, or the famous Caudalie VinoSource SOS Serum (€31.95) is gentle enough for most skin types too.
#3 Light Foundation Only Where Needed
We tend to cover too much of our skin, blanketing it entirely in the aim of achieving perfection. This actually removes the good aspects of our skin as much as the bad, so in the future try to stick to a light formula and apply it only where needed. Talking with Chanel, Gisele explains that she only places it around her mouth, nose and under eyes! Her chosen foundation is the Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation (€45), whereas the Perricone No Foundation Foundation (€54.45) is another fab lightweight option!
#4 Bring Back Colour with Natural Shade Blush
Following this, boost the natural hues in your skin by placing cream blush on the apples of your cheeks and blend up. Never blend it downwards or place it lower than the apple of the cheeks, the supermodel explained, as this drags the face down.
#5 Define with Cream Bronzer
Most of us don’t have the sharp cheekbone definition Gisele does, but don’t worry, even she likes a bit of shading to exaggerate them. Using another cream product, she adds some definition to the hollows of her cheeks and around the forehead and nose. Placing it on the nose and blending in gives it a sunkissed look.
#6 Set With Light, Sheer Powder
Unless you have quite dry skin, you should set makeup with a light, sheer powder in the T-zone and under the eyes. Gisele emphatically states that, “Powder your T-zone and the lines going from your nose down around your mouth so you don’t look like a bulldog,” Gisele told Elle, “because when those areas are shiny, it’s awful”.
#7 Fill in Eyebrows Lightly
Gisele’s natural eyebrows are so blonde they are practically transparent, so even she needs a little help for them to look their best. She uses a blend of a light brown and blonde pencil, so if you’re similarly coloured then try this! If you have very dark hair, stick with one dark shade (but never, EVER pure black unless you want the Groucho look).
Again, Gisele has such fair facial hair that her eyelashes are super blonde and not very long, so one of her favourite beauty items is mascara. In the Chanel campaign, she says “my mom wasn’t really a makeup person, she wore mascara and blush. And funnily enough those are my favorite things, mascara and blush.”
#9 Plump Lips with Nude Lip Liner
If you aren’t crazy about the idea of maintaining a lip colour all day, then just add some definition with a nude lip liner and fill in with a natural colour. The Essence Lip Liners are so soft and creamy you’d confuse them with the Chanel alternatives!
#10 Pinky Peach Lippy
For even more of a plumped up pout you could practically pass as just your own au natural, go for a pinky peach shade if you have fair or tanned colouring, to mimic Gisele’s lips. If darker, go for a deeper pink or mauve shade that matches your lip’s natural tone. She promotes the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine (€34), shade Rêveuse.
#11 Only Brush Hair in Shower and Leave to Dry Naturally
While she has envy-inducing beach locks, Gisele’s secret to attaining the natural texture is so basic we are beyond ourselves. Tired from excessive grooming for shoots, she only combs through her hair in the shower, then leaves it to dry naturally.
#12 Use a Light Golden Tint or Shimmer
Again, how many of us are going to have that Brazilian eternally tanned skin? We can fake the bronze glow though with a golden shimmer oil like the classic NUXE Huile Prodigieuse Or Multi Usage Dry Oil (€24.45), which is more subtle and easy to achieve than a fake tan.
#13 Eat Alkaline 80% Time
Lastly, the glow comes from within according to our sources and the model herself, as she eats a vegan and alkaline diet 80% of the time… So if you’re truly dedicated, try this out as all reports show that it does make a vast difference to your skin and energy levels. Get that natural glow!
